The Challenge

The rig encountered total losses while drilling in the highly fractured limestone formation. A floating mud cap technique was used to continue drilling. Despite mixing and pumping up to seven (7) conventional LCM pills (640bbl cumulative volume) containing fibers, calcium carbonate and graphitic materials, total losses continued, resulting in an estimated fluid loss in excess of ~ 6,500bbl.

The Action

Pumped 3 x STOPLOSS pills at 75ppb (153bbl cumulative volume)

The Result

Regained circulation (80%) and continued to control losses. Over time dynamic losses were reduced to as low as 30bph and static losses to as low as 1.5bph.
